I started going to Andrew because my skin had become acne-prone in my 30s. Andrew turned the situation around by prescribing a glycolic gel treatment. Under his care, my skin has become much healthier. His knowledge of the science of skincare is more in-depth than anyone I know. I get facials several times a year from him, and they are excellent. In the past I have found facials to be far from relaxing, if not unpleasant (someone is picking at your face, after all!) but with Andrew, I am able to relax and get the benefits of the facial while also getting an ultra-relaxed "spa" experience. Andrew is a kind, nurturing person who really listens to and cares about his customers. He makes everything easy, from being able to book treatments and buy products online to recommending only products that are truly tailored to your skin needs.

As it has been mentioned here in reviews many times - EVERYONE needs to go and see Andrew!!! Seeing Andrew was an eye-opener for me. So refreshing to hear someone talking openly and honestly about skincare, marketing, environment, etc..

I never had the great skin. Spots coming and going throughout my entire life. Andrew gave me a better understanding of what and how can be achieved on my skin. More importantly he taught me to be proud of my skin - such a relief to hear that in today's world where media and skincare industry is shouting at you from everywhere how dull and imperfect your skin is and how you need to cover it up with millions of products. Andrew explained greatly about how to take care of my skin and what products to use. He is super-nice never pushing any of his products on you! I had to demand from him where to buy right products, only then he told me he sells them at his spa. :-) I bought exfoliator and after a week my skin was so much clearer! I'm keeping up a routine Andrew suggested, my skin is improving but what I love most is the fact I now have better understanding and appreciation for my skin/body. I no more wear make up, quite the opposite I wear very little and it is so liberating! I saw Andrew for the second time and going for my 3rd facial soon (facials are SO SO relaxing) and I can't wait already to learn more. Andrew patiently explained his skin care philosophy and debunked all the commercial hype and usual beauty salon approach. He taught me to realise that I have to make my own effort regularly and not depend on the usual salon once a month overhaul. The products seem very scientific and feel great. I was given a gift certificate to The Blue Turtle Spa and am so glad that I was made aware of this fantastic practitioner! Andrew takes the time to find out what you are using on your skin, what your health background is (that could affect your skin) and then analyzes what is the best approach for you and the products that would be most useful to you. He is very conscious of the effect of product ingredients on the environment, also. I went to the West Portal location which is in a lovely little salon (The Sisters Salon) and the room for the facials is immaculate. The entire process was very relaxing. I checked out The Blue Turtle Spa online shop products and they appear to be very highly rated by skin experts. My skin absolutely glowed after the initial facial! I will definitely be back for more and would recommend Andrew/The Blue Turtle Spa to anyone.

Andrew is a skin-whisperer. Really. He is so much more than your typical facial. His knowledge about sensitive and sun-damaged skin is as good as it gets and I recommend that those of you who grew up in the sun really pick his brain about products and skin-care routine. Per previous reviews, he has had his own struggles with sun-damaged skin, which is what I believe drives his passion and extensive knowledge on how to best care for and heal it.

I went to Andrew after an IPL treatment at a doctor's office (for rosacea) damaged my skin. It took me a while to actually make the appointment with him because I had to deal with my feelings...anger towards myself for getting the IPL treatment in the first place. So my years of growing up in the sun + this stupid treatment left my skin dry with a horrible crepe-y texture. I didn't trust the doctor anymore and for several months tried various products and methods to heal my skin, to no avail. Upon the recommendation of a friend, I decided to finally try Andrew. Completely confused and worn out, I came into the spa with a large bag of products I was using. More than a facial, I really wanted to get Andrew's opinion on the products and how I was caring for my skin.

Long story short, Andrew was extremely patient, compassionate and straight-forward with his advice. He went through each and every product with me and I could tell he was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about skin-care. On top of that, his facial was amazing. After the session, I asked him about his products. He did not try to push them on me. His recommended routine was so much simpler than what I was doing and was really targeted for my skin. I bought a couple of products and have been using them, following his routine, for about 4 mos now. To my amazement, my skin has really improved. Especially with a rejuvenation product that I just got during my last visit. I highly recommend Andrew, especially for those of you with sensitive and/or sun-damaged skin. He's top notch!

My skin has always treated me well. I can't claim any credit for it - inherited it from Mom - and it would be hard to describe the level of laziness with which I've treated it in return. Well, then I turned 30, and things weren't so cool between us anymore. Suddenly, there was dryness and redness, and all the products I tried (based on online reviews, mostly) just weren't cutting it.

Enter Andrew, who did a thorough analysis of what I was using and told me what was helping and what was hurting. Far from trying to push products on me, he even told me that the $4 Comodyne makeup remover wipes I was using were fine! I really appreciated the scientific, data-driven approach he took in explaining why certain ingredients weren't a good match for my skin, and why many really expensive products weren't any better than drugstore ones! The facial itself was great - extractions weren't painful, and I wasn't bright pink for the rest of the day, like I was after so many other facials. I bought 2 of the products he recommended, and have decided to go back and get the rest because I see so much improvement already! The ones he likes are fragrance-free, generally organic, and not tested on animals. Andrew, you have a new fan! I'll definitely be coming back soon.

It would be difficult for me to explain the anxiety I've felt - on a daily (minute by minute, really) basis for so many years. It felt like my skin was taunting me, as it would start to clear up, only to break out in other areas before the current breakouts had completely disappeared. Hope... disappointment... hope.... disappointment... I had seen dermatologists, estheticians, tried homeopathic remedies, expensive boutique products, strong prescription medications - anything I could to achieve clear skin. Every person I would pass on the street or see on television - my first thought was - how do so many people have completely clear skin every day of their lives and I can't even manage it for one day? It became such an issue that I began to withdraw - staying home out of embarrassment, skipping events that I really wanted to attend, planing time with friends only when my skin was minimally broken out. I even stopped dating because I felt so self-conscious. It took over my thoughts and I let it ruin my life, my self-esteem and my relationships.

Then I moved to SF and found Andrew on yelp. Wow. What an experience. He sat with me for 30 minutes reviewing the products I was currently using and explaining, in scientific detail, why they were not good for my skin, what I should be using - and why..... He told me why. He completely blew my mind when he explained that I was washing my face too much. Everything he said made sense and he answered every question I had - with a genuine concern for my understanding. He was kind and honest - and didn't rush the process. It's been about 4 weeks and my skin looks amazing. I have zero pimples, my skin is smooth because my pores are smaller, the wrinkles around my eyes are less visible and I feel wonderful. It's been difficult to trust/believe that it is working - but every time I look in a mirror, I become more certain that as long as Andrew is in my life, I will have the skin I have been dreaming of for so long. Thank you so much. You've not just given me clear skin. You've given me happiness and confidence. What an amazing gift!

Andrew Scoular is as good as they get for skincare. He does not merely wash your face, squeeze a few blackheads, smooth a bunch of goo on it, and call it a day. Rather, he analyzes your skin's state and determines an appropriate plan of action.

I arrived at Andrew's salon 20 minutes late, as I was stopped by a CHP officer on my way to my appointment (I wasn't even texting, just holding my phone, but that's another story). I was rushing and flushed, and super stressed out. I finally make an appointment with Andrew and this happens! Well, he was so incredibly cool about it. He urged me to just relax & de-stress, and we started the appointment. He usually begins by analyzing the skin-care products you use and determining if they are appropriate for you, but we decided to skip that step because I had been late, and he still wanted me to get a great facial. Awesome.

Andrew showed extraordinary respect for the integrity of my skin. He noticed areas that tend to get inflamed easily, and backed off treating those areas with nothing but the gentlest products. He didn't wail away on my pores, but rather gently coaxed the blackheads to a cleaner, less congested state. Andrew shuns products that are based purely on marketing hype. He is a scientist himself, and really tries to find the BEST, most scientifically supported products that are ALL CRUELTY FREE, which is important to me. If it has to be tested on animals, odds are it isn't good for your face, anyway, right? Also, he will only use appropriate products on your skin. If you have rosacea or your skin flushes easily, he simply won't do a chemical peel on your face because it will only hurt your skin, not help it. Not very many aestheticians will pass up the opportunity to make money by doing a peel, but Andrew's integrity is real. If your skin can't handle it, he just won't do it. I really appreciate Andrew's genuine concern for the skin, whole person, the planet-- his approach is one of wholeness and beauty from the inside out. Sounds corny, but it's really true.

Lastly, Andrew is passionate about the use of sun protection to prevent aging AND skin cancers. He himself suffered from a melanoma on his left cheek that he had removed 5-6 months before I saw him. Incredibly, one could hardly notice a scar at all--I am convinced that his self-treatment of his skin made that scar appear nearly non-existent in just half a year (I didn't ask him too much about it, but I do know that removing melanomas is no joke--they dig deep to get those out). Amazing really is the single best word to describe Andrew's skin care talent.

My skin has always had issues. It's pretty sensitive so I'm very cautious about what I put on it and I haven't changed my skin routine in about 2 years. My most annoying issue is that my old acne pits (thanks high school) would always be pigmented pink, making them really noticeable on my fair skin but I couldn't put any effective products on them because my skin would react badly. That all changed after I saw Andrew at Blue Turtle Spa.

In his North Beach location he has a room in the back of a modern salon. When you first meet him, he has you fill out a card that has you list everything you put on your face (face wash, moisturizer, etc.). While he reviews it, you get to pick out the music that will play during your facial (nice touch!). He then goes over your skin care regime with you, even going as far to explain the biology and anatomy of your skin. I brought my Cetaphil for gentle skin, a face wash I've been using since high school, and he pointed out how there is actually sodium laureth sulphate in it, a detergent used in dish washing soap! No wonder my face was always pink!

The facial itself is amazing (I think I fell asleep) and when I walked out of the salon it actually looked like I had make up on. There was no redness that usually comes after you have a facial. His extractions were totally painless and he was willing to explain exactly what he was doing/putting on your skin if you asked.

While the facial is terrific, it's really the skin consultation that's the gift that keeps on giving. The best part was that Andrew does NOT push the products he sells on his website. He just recommends products with certain ingredients in them that are best suited for your skin. After a little research, I decided to go with products on Andrew's website, mostly because they were priced reasonably with free 2-day shipping and I really appreciated his services during my facial. He sent me a thank-you email and the products came right away. A week later, it looks like I have new skin! It's smooth and soft and there's absolutely no visible pigmentation or acne scars.

Bottom line: I will forever be recommending the Blue Turtle Spa to all my friends and family. Andrew has a new client he can add to his regular list.

Andrew is the best! I finally had enough with facials that were convenient to home, but now i travel atleast an hour and through traffic just to get to him. He has you tube videos, explaining his procedures, and the best of all he explains "Why," in medical terminology even I can understand! I have had the pleasure of going to him twice so far, and each time, I get compliments on my skin. My pores have minimize but i definetly need touch ups atleast once a month. Even my brother, who never said one thing nice to me noted my clearer skin! Andrew always answers his phone (I seem to get lucky) and even his text messages. Definetly in agreement with the other yelpers, his extractions are great and do not hurt. And to be honest, I had to peek and see if he was even really doing anything but he was! I always thought I had oily and sensitive skin until I visited Andrew. Now my pores are clear and I have very few problems with my skin. (Thank you Andrew!) The facial was wonderfully relaxing, and the two products I purchased from him were wonderfully effective and inexpensive.   I've had a number of facials at different places, but none of them compared to my experience with Andrew. At other places, I often got the feeling that I wasn't sure if the person always knew what she was talking about. A lot of times, it felt like they were just trying to push their products. However, with Andrew, he was all about educating the consumer and caring about skin. He did not push a specific line of products. He also left it up to me to ask for anything. I've only been to him once because I became pregnant and now have got my hands full with baby, but I look forward to visiting him again.

I always go to Andrew when I'm in a major crisis: after breakups, etc. I come in looking like a train wreck. I leave looking like I've been on a juice fast and yoga kick, instead of on the couch drowning my tears in Oreos for the past two weeks. Unlike other places I've been, I never have red blotchy skin when Andrew does whatever he does to my face. He teaches me more about skin care than my dermatologist(s) did. I just had a truly lovely facial from Andrew. I'm not one to throw the word "lovely" around -okay, maybe just a little- but this really was a nice experience. Andrew is fantastic! I work outside a lot and Andrew explained the differences between sun blocks to me very well so I know what to look for when I go shopping. The spa itself was a bright and spacious place. I have been going to him for years and he always provides such consistently amazing facials that make you look and feel great. I had a very positive and educational experience with Andrew at Blue Turtle Spa. The 15 minute free skin consultation was very honest and accurate! It wasn't to try to sell me products, but Andrew gave a scientifically based assessment of my skin that was eye-opening and will definitely affect how I care for my skin from now on. The facial itself was relaxing and calming. The products felt great on my skin and didn't cause it to react adversely. I felt that my skin was truly cared for.

I just had my second facial with Andrew and the next morning an acquaintance complimented me out of the blue and said I was glowing...... GLOWING!!
I've been to several estheticians and dermatologists before. No one compares to Andrew's knowledge, ability to communicate and expertise. Andrew can give you the medical run down about your skin in layman's terms and leave you confidently prepared to take the healthiest care of your skin.
I noticed a difference within one week. By my 30 day follow up I was thrilled with the results and proud to be a "student" of Andrews. My skin has truly never looked better and any issues that do arise are minimal if at all. His recommended skin regimen has calmed down any break outs, lightened previous damage caused by my dermatologist (never get DioLite!) and given me the security to walk around bare faced again.
The products he applies work and are completely affordable. If you can do the work and abstain from the crap we used to cleanse our skin with then you too will be an ecstatic student. His facials are thorough, relaxing and leave you fresh faced, ready to take on the world. I can't thank Andrew enough for making such a huge, positive improvement in my skin. Become a convert now, ladies.......it's the best decision you'll ever make.

It was the first time I felt like the person giving me the facial knew what they were talking about and genuinely wanted to help me improve my skin. Upon reviewing all the Yelp articles about Andrew's work, I decided to treat myself to a facial at his spa. It was fantastic! He was very good about explaining everything, how to best treat my skin, and the facial itself was so relaxing. I felt absolutely beautiful afterwards. After your Blue Turtle facial, you will actually look better than you have since before teenage acne. Its not like so many facials, where you leave blotchy, shiny, and irritated. The reason seems to be Andrew's focus on giving your skin what it needs. He approaches the skin scientifically, and emphasizes balancing the relationship between your skin and the outside world. After hearing his sensible explanations, I think I know more about my skin than I ever have AND how to work with it to make it look its best. Knowledge is power!

Plus, you get to pick your own music, and you will smell amazing afterwards. What are you waiting for?

Andrew is a professional! He has studied the science of skin care and knows how to customize treatments for the 'mood' of my skin which changes with stress and the seasons. I am always impressed with the small but significant care Andrew takes with the room - it is clean, everything is ready when you arrive and he has the music you like already playing. Lastly, he is very pleasant so the experience is relaxing. I highly recommend the BlueTurtleSpa!

"Andrew Scoular is wonderful! I have never actually had the pleasure of meeting Andrew in person. I found him by total chance when I was doing a Google search for Mineral Sunscreens. I found the Blue Turtle Spa website and then discovered Andrew and his very informative videos. I was currently at the beginning of my second pregnancy and was using a product that was causing my skin to be excessively dry and irritated. After emailing Andrew he helped me realize that my pregnancy was not why my skin was acting this way but rather the product I was using. He gave me some wonderful advice and suggestions and I ordered a cleanser, an exfoliant (safe to use during my pregnancy) and also a mineral sunscreen. My skin has never looked better!! I am SO happy I found Andrew. It is rare in this day and age to find someone so knowledgeable AND honest who is truly trying to help people with skin challenges and who isn't trying to push unnecessary products. Thank you Andrew!"

Andrew is so knowledgeable about skin and took 30 minutes of his time in a complimentary consultation to tell anyone all about cystic acne and what causes it.

His facials are so relaxing and your skin will feel amazing, super refreshed & rejuvenated after the facial.

The treatment is gentle, and super relaxing.

Absolutely wonderful................

I found Andrew (Blue Turtle Spa) by chance (or was it??) It was via a gift certificate that was purchased for me by my colleagues in Michigan! I am a 43 woman and starting to notice the changes that are taking place in my skin - bigger pores around my nose and dry patches, oily patches, and just a general unevenness due to sun damage. I met with Andrew three days ago at the West Portal Blue Turtle Spa (located in Sisters Salon) for a "Love your Skin Facial" and consultation. Amazing! WOW WOW WOW - where do I begin? And I'll try not to go on forever. The spa itself is really nice and very very clean. Andrew will walk you through his facial process before he beings so there are no surprises (good for the jumpy types like me). I felt comfortable enough to tell Andrew at one point when the bright light was bothering my eyes. It was no problem. He also has a selection of music and clients can choose what he plays during the facial. The facial was a very pleasant experience. More important to me though than the actual facial are the products and the results. I guess at this point in my middle-age life finding those products that are really going to deliver is my focus. Andrew is all about the science behind products. He absolutely does not go for the hype and the marketing behind so many products out there (like me, I'm a sucker for all that stuff). Andrew did not judge or make me feel bad for my current skin care product choices. I appreciated that. He just outlined his philosophy in a neutral way and let me figure it out for myself. My meeting with Andrew was very informative and I learned a lot about skin - the natural processes and biology of the skin, skin care, and ultimately what will and won't work to make my skin healthy (and therefore appear healthy) - all backed with sound scientific information which I could understand made logical sense. When I looked at my skin after the facial I was shocked at how evenly toned it looked. The little bit of extra redness that is almost always in my cheeks was diminished and my pores looked smaller! I purchased the 3 products that were used during the facial (not too expensive; comparable to department store prices) and have been following Andrews's recommendations for using them (not the packaging). Today I did a double take when I was finishing up with my morning skin care/make-up routine. I looked at my nose and the pores were so small I had to lean in close to the mirror because I couldn't believe finally I was seeing results I've been looking for! My skin feels healthy and happy and it looks really good if I don't say so myself. AND I feel like I have a direct line to a true expert! Andrew knows his stuff. He is a true professional. I really like and respect Andrew and will most definitely be back to see him at Blue Turtle Spa.

It's been months since my first appointment with Andrew and I still am in awe of his expertise and compassion. He explained my skin with the expertise of a medical doctor while also having the soothing touch of a therapist. I have super sensitive skin and I left there with no redness and a glow that people noticed all day long.

Every time I come in to see Andrew, he always gives me the most amazing advice. He never pushes products and only gave his recommendations when I asked for them. He focuses mostly on talking about the characteristics of my skin and ingredients that I should look for.
