I don't even like facials, but this one rocked. Andrew is smart, knowledgeable, and kind with healing hands. My face was *happy* after a facial with extractions! I liked his recommendations, I liked his music selection, and I was essentially meditating for the entire facial. I think my face likes Andrew, which is good because I do, too. He did a great job, and has an ethical business to boot.

At last, an esthetician that knows what they are doing and the results show.  No kidding!  After many services at various spas and salons throughout the Bay Area, there has been no one else except Blue Turtle Spa who has been able to take care of my acne.  Prior to going to see Andrew, I was taking medication for my acne for some time.   I've had acne pretty much all my life even now as an adult in my late 30s.  Shortly after my first visit with Andrew, I no longer took my medication.  Three years later, my skin is still free of major acne and believe it or not, can go with little or no make-up at all.  Not only do you get the results you are looking for, Andrew is very knowledgeable and continuously educates himself on various skin problems and products (which he also carries).  ??So don't fear or delay, make your appointment with Andrew today!  He is available 7 days a week and his schedule is flexible. One of the best facialist's I've ever met.  Andrew has this gentle demeanor, is well educated in all skin care, and leaves you with a glowing, baby-bottom face at the end of the facial.  He taught me better skin care routines so the facial just keeps on giving!  He sells a lot of the products he uses, and the alpha hydroxy serum has done wonders for my skin.  I would definitely go back here!

I have had extractions before.  Kind of painful. Andrew changed my mind.  His Express Facial was wonderful, enjoyable and relaxing.  I got to choose the music I wanted to listen to and I just laid back and relaxed.  To top it off he has a gorgeous accent that's great to listen to. Before the treatment, Andrew sat down and talked to me about  my skincare routine and went through each product I used step by step.  He taught me about skin pH and what commercial moisturizers really do.  Best of all it didn't feel like he was trying to sell me anything!  I'll definitely come back again and will follow his skincare advice.

I came to Blue Turtle Spa with no expectations - this, after all, would be my first facial and I was nervous about getting my pores smushed between two thumbnails.  But after reading the other reviews, I decided to give this place a try. I called Andrew inquiring about the down time I needed between a facial and a major event, since I've heard that your skin gets worse before it gets better.  Andrew returned my message, saying that his facials would not exacerbate my skin conditions and that I could walk into an event later that night if I so chose.  But he also said he didn't want to be overconfident and he'd have to get to know my skin first. So I brought a ginormous ziplock bag full of my toughest arsenal - Oil-Free this, Deep Clean that, and my entire goddamn Proactiv line.  So when I finally sat down with Andrew in person, he took a look at all the ingredients and broke down, scientifically, that they were all a crock of shit.  I felt duped by the 15+ years of Allure Beauty "Advice"! (Marketing is more like it)??I got an express facial  w/ extractions for $45 - which was the commitment level and price I was looking for, got comfy under the nice shearling blanket and closed my eyes.  He used a Dr. Schwab oil-based cleanser (oil is not the enemy, friends!), and did firm-yet-gentle extractions on my skin...no face-mushing here!  But the big guns he used were the 10% Glycolic Acid treatment he put on my skin for 3 gloriously itchy minutes, and the CLEAR INORGANIC Zinc Sunscreen that left a velvety, matte finish. The experience itself was worth it and my skin was even-toned, fresh and glowing, but it was his commitment to (re)educating me about my skin that was worth its weight in gold.  I am definitely coming back for the works next time. He also splits his proceeds with 4 amazing charities, so it's a Win-Win Situation :)

I was in search of a new esthetician in north beach so i turned to yelp, and saw that sync was close to home. I was greeted by the friendly receptionist with a glass of white wine and a few questions to answer about my skin care needs. I was definitely worried i might have someone who scalded me about my haphazard skincare "regimen" (aka, crappy skin cleansers and occasionally sleeping in my makeup *gasp*), but was so pleasantly surprised.  Andrew sat with me for a complimentary consultation and really schooled me with why my skin appeared to be that of a teenager, without making me feel like a child. His gentle demeanor and humor really helped to make me feel comfortable and assured i was in good hands. ??The facial itself was wonderful, i was so relaxed and felt guided the entire way, no surprises here! I could NOT believe how gentle he was while extracting, I now know how shoddy of jobs i have had in the past. Hallelujah Andrew!!! I could not have been more pleased.  After our time together, i felt like a noodle, a very relaxed and happy noodle. Andrew again sat with me and helped me purchase a new cleanser, exfoliant and sunscreen that was appropriate for my skin, without pushing me like a used car salesman, he was so knowledgeable and complimentary i felt like giving him my first child!  I will be returning and recommend this wonderful spa to anyone who wants to escape with an amazing man who knows what he's doing! I just have to do an update for this place. Because Andrew truly is not only extremely skilled - but he is also one of the kindest people out there. Trust. I try to patronize places with good energy and heart. Blue Turtle Spa is one such place. I have been here twice now. Since Andrew just opened up this particular location (he has two locations) - it's fairly easy to get an appointment. And being that Andrew is so talented and word is only continuing to spread about him - - I suggest jumping on an appointment soon. With the holidays quickly approaching it can be too easy to stress yourself out. To fall asleep in heavily caked on holiday makeup. To stay up way too late doing online shopping for friends and family. But. Don't sweat it. Whatever ill-will you unleash on your skin - Andrew will calm and correct. Not only does he have the magical touch. But his prices and all of the products that he carries are wonderful as well. Pamper yourself. Go to Blue Turtle Spa. I just had my first visit/facial with Andrew and am very pleased...which is saying a ton coming from me.  I don't often pamper myself, but since another birthday is almost here, I thought my aging complexion could use some pampering...I highly recommend Andrew.  An odd experience too was that I felt attractive after I left and I haven't felt like that in a long time!  He doesn't overdo or underdo (not a word) the facial--it's really done according to your needs as he truly knows his business. his personality made me feel comfortable- he's for real and is very kind and highly professional.  I asked about the products because I looked so much better, he didn't sell or push at all-I also got the sunscreen, etc. The room and everything felt clean and fresh and the bed was comfy/pampering.

I'm certain that I wrote a review before, but was surprised to see that it didn't show up - maybe I clicked the wrong button because I was soooo relaxed from my first facial at Blue Turtle Spa.  I have had several facials in the past, but never anything as relaxing and pampering as this one. Though the room is small, it is designed for the utmost comfort. I want to find towels and a "spa wrap" as plush as these, and a "bed" that is so contoured to my body.   Even more important, Andrew is clearly very knowledgable about skin, and he cleared up some longstanding misconceptions I had.  He went through the face products I use, explaining which ones were fine and which were exacerbating my inflamed skin.  He did not pressure me to buy hundreds of dollars of products, and even recommended a couple of drugstore products.  I have given his name to my friends, and I hope that they will treat themselves to a facial even though the economy is horrible (or maybe because the economy is horrible). I highly, highly, highly recommend Andrew at Blue Turtle Spa for a facial.

I filled in some forms and he sat down with me and went over everything, in order to fully understand my skin, my skin ritual habits, and to access the best way to address it. He even let me pick my relaxing music. I picked the African music themed one. Pure fabulosity. And then I just lay back and closed my eyes as my tired skin was soothed and pampered into health again.

All of the products which Andrew gently massaged into my skin smelled amazing and were light and fresh feeling. And he even managed to work out some nagging kinks in my neck in the process. I even fell asleep briefly through it all. When it was over I went to look in the mirror and almost didn't recognize my skin. It beamed. It glowed. It felt silky. Soft. Smooth. Andrew didn't try to push any products. But I was so excited about the results on my face that I wanted to make sure it lasted  - so I ended up buying an incredible light sunscreen, a sensitive face-wash and a gentle exfoliant. Thanks Yelpers!  I came here based on the rave reviews and I was not disappointed. I brought my mom for a facial here for mother's day and it was a great experience.  My mother is a tough customer - doesn't usually get things like facials and massages, and is a natural born skeptic, but Andrew quickly put her at ease.  First he took the time to go over our skin care routines and then took my mom in for the treatment.  When my mom came out she was all smiles and her skin looked great!  It was an instant difference!  Then it was my turn - Andrew is the perfect balance between knowledgeable and pampering.  He really seems like he cares about helping you take good care of your skin.  My skin looked and felt amazing afterwards and even hours later I can't believe how even and soft it is.  Also, it feels good to support a local business run by someone who enjoys what they do. Right from the start, I was impressed with Blue Turtle Spa.  I was able to book my appointment online, and got an email right away from Andrew personally, letting me know that I was eligible for a 50% off referral promotion the spa was having.  Definitely left a good first impression. Upon arriving, I was thoroughly impressed with Andrew's in-depth consultation of my skin and skin care products. He explained the science behind everything which really gave him a lot of credibility in my book.  I was a little afraid that the consultation would be a big sales job on products, but it was nothing like that.  Andrew was just focused on educating me on how to reach my skin care goals.  He was super professional, and a pleasure to talk to! The facial itself was super relaxing and made my skin look and feel absolutely amazing afterwards. It felt so luxurious to be so pampered!  The facial included a really nice neck and shoulder massage which I seriously needed.  I would recommend Blue Turtle Spa (esp Andrew)  in a heartbeat! I did wind up buying some sunscreen at the end of the facial, but there was no pressure to at all.  I just really loved the product.  I can't wait to go back after my wedding!

I have been struggling with rosacea, which was properly diagnosed by a physician, for approximately two years. I had seen several of "the best" dermatologists in Georgia. All of which recommended bacteria fighting ingredients, which further irritated my skin and prevented the healing process. My skin was bright red and became swollen and significantly inflamed when exposed to sunlight and when I consumed certain foods. I had spent several hundred dollars on laser treatments and skin care products in an attempt to limit the progression of the disease, which did not effectively treat my condition. In my continual search for relief, I stumbled upon a PDF rosacea document on the internet, which was written by Andrew Scoular. Based on the content of this document, I knew Andrew was very knowledgeable about rosacea. I immediately called Andrew and he recommended a specific regimen based on the current condition of my skin. Keep in mind that I live in Georgia so he was consulting to me over the phone without the benefit of assessing my skin visually. I have been using the recommended cleanser and the ultra calm serum daily for the last few months while following Andrew's recommended cleansing process. The results have been outstanding. Rosacea can't be cured so I am not implying that I don't continue to have challenges with my skin. However, thanks to Andrew, my skin has started to heal and I can now spend time with my family outdoors without my skin reacting violently. His expertise and product recommendations have truly changed my life.

After recently having a baby I was looking for a place where I could accomplish two goals. The first to get in some much needed pampering for both my husband and me. Second, to make my husband's birthday a special one. Andrew really worked with us to make the day an exclusive one by inviting us to the Clement street location where we were able to enjoy our facial and massage services in tandem. The unique art installations, peaceful view of the garden, and the luxurious accoutrements really lent to the overall atmosphere of beauty and relaxation. Where other facial technicians have left my face sensitive and bruised, Andrew was gentle, leaving my face feeling clean and refreshed. I also really appreciated Andrew's "no-pressure" approach to my consultation, where most other places inevitably make you feel obligated to purchase their products. Even my husband came away feeling rejuvenated. This was by far the best facial I have ever had. Massage was also really good.

I've encountered over 10 skin consultants in my lifetime and Andrew is by far the most knowledgable. Not only does he give the most attentive,relaxing and pampering experience, but he also recommends products and ways to take care of your skin. Other facialists are usually very secretive about the products they use, but Andrew is very open and honest with the products that he uses and will tell you how they work and help clear up your skin. As a board certified specialty pharmacist, I am very particular about the products that I use. I have checked out the products that Andrew has recommend to me, and I find them to be less harsh than what I have tried. His products are also affordable and has ingredients that are not harsh to the skin. Andrew charges prices that are below others, but yet gives better service. You should try Andrew even just once, don't take my word for it. You'll see how great he is. I was hesistant to expose Andrew because I don't his appointments to get all booked up- otherwise I won't be able to make one! But seeing that he is now the "Best Spa" according the Guardian- the secret's out! He is a very attentive, relaxing, great skin consultant

I've never been the kind of  guy to get facials, pedis or medis for that matter. But I'm getting older now and everything is in decline, so I need a little more help keeping up appearances. After an initial mixup with the scheduling, I met with Andrew for my facial. I realized after talking with him for only a few minutes that I had been doing a miserable job taking care of my own skin, but quickly had a sense that he was going to set things right. When I left Blue Turtle Spa later that evening I felt refreshed,  and excited about how my skin felt and looked. I also left with products better suited to my skin type (no more off the shelf scrubs for me) , and the much needed knowledge of how to use them. But even with these new tools in hand, I will definitely be back. There is a wedding on the horizon and I know Andrew will help me look my best.

When I first came to Blue Turtle Spa and met Andrew, I was really hoping that he would be the one to help me with my (severe) acne problems. The first appointment was amazing because Andrew had explained to me all about acne, and you can tell that Andrew is extremely well-educated in not just acne, but in all types of skin conditions. Also, just by listening and talking to him, you knew that he cared about your skin and that he was going to put you on the right track to having beautiful and healthy skin, and I know this because my skin has improved greatly over the course of three months. Because of Andrew, my skin has been in its healthiest and most beautiful condition in three years. I am so glad to have found Blue Turtle Spa and met Andrew. Blue Turtle Spa is the best and most wonderful place for skin care. Do not hesitate to see Andrew because he is the most caring and amazing person you'll ever meet, and he definitely knows what's he doing! Andrew and Blue Turtle Spa are my skin saviors. i was used to facials where you have no idea what's being applied to your skin, are a little uncomfortable throughout and walk out with a reddish face. no, no, not with the lovely andrew of blue turtle spa. the location is great; andrew makes you choose the music that will accompany your luxurious facial (i chose ocean energy, which i felt like i needed that day) and talks to you about your skin and habits. o, and he knows everything about skin in general and your skin in particular. as the facial started, he explained to me all he was using on my face, backing up every product with a scientific and caring explanation that made a lot of sense to me. also, he answered all my questions with openness and not without a sense of humor. then, between his amazing hands (he gives beautiful neck massages) and the music, i ended up zoning out and starting to relax. i didn't have to say a word. andrew intuitively got that and let the explanations go, allowing for the deepest relaxation to take place. i walked out energized, just as the music promised, grateful and radiant into the sun of san francisco (but with andrew's sunscreen!). with no reservations, do i recommend this spa.

Some people might be put off my Andrew's immense knowledge on skin care. He knows a lot! He's serious about your skin & really cares for it. I first met him while he was still at Skyline College. At that time, I was just happy to get a typical facial with cleaning, exfoliation, etc. etc. But Andrew stood out. And after he got his license & he opened his spa, I never hesitated to drive all the way to Richmond district from the Peninsula just for him to take care of my skin. I have a very sensitive skin. He's been really great at recommending the right products. And what impresses me is his continued skin care education. Some estheticians would just align themselves with some products but Andrew will even check out the ingredients of some products I found myself & will give you his review. I have the outmost confidence in his abilities. And since skin care is the basics for the fountain of youth, he's definitely a gem!

You must go to Andrew, he gives the most luxurious facial! and so gentle, I think I fell asleep to the wonderful music, my choice. I will definitely schedule another treatment. Until I had a facial with Andrew, I had thought that facials were a superficail luxury that did not have that much relevance to health. Previously I had not experienced someone who was scientifically informed and who spent time and energy to explain products and precedures to me. His skill, knowledge, and approach convinced me that having a facial with someone like him (a rare occurrence) truly is making a contribution to my own skin health and my overall well-being. His belief in what he is doing is apparent in his energy and his careful selection of products. I cannot recommend the Blue Turtle Spa enough. You have to try it yourself.

Andrew is a class-act; he greets you with questions to probe for your needs and objectives about your skin. He is thoughtful with everything he does when it comes to helping you with your skin and your time at the spa. He gives you a choice of music and products, and carefully analyzes your face. The Love Your Skin facial left me peaceful, happy and glowing. Andrew KNOWS skin! And what we have to do to keep it healthy and young. For the fabulous way you feel under Andrew's touch and care, Blue Turtle Spa is a terrific value. I think of him as my skincare guardian!

Andrew at Blue Turtle Spa is wonderful!  I had a facial from him last night, and it was decadent and relaxing, and I came away armed with a bunch of new information about skincare products that work for my skin type. I have somewhat problematic skin, and the first thing Andrew did was figure out what products I'm currently using (drugstore junk, shamefully) and share with me the problems that they can be causing, and how to fix it.  He answered all my questions, and seems to know a ton about the various products that he uses. And not just what it might have said on the box- Andrew knows the ingredients, how they impact the skin, and at some points he sounded like a chemist! I was really impressed.  Also, he's very sweet and kind, and encouraging- he really does seem to want everyone to have gorgeous skin! And lemme tell you, when someone is leaning over you and eyeballing your pores and your dry skin and the circles under your eyes, you want them to be friendly and upbeat about it! In terms of the space- the table was covered in soft blankets, and there was a heating pad. It was like being in a warm little nest, and I actually dozed off during the amazingly good facial massage. I walked out of there with my face gorgeous and glowing. NOT red at all. I've had facials where I come out looking red and blotchy, and that always sucks. I'd recommend Andrew to anyone looking for a great facial with tons of  fabulous skincare advice.

Blue Turtle Spa changed the way I think about facials. Andrew has created a comfortable calming environment that makes the chaos of one's hectic life just drift away. A comfy warm bed, great art and music and view to a beautiful garden set the scene for one of the best facials I've ever had. Andrew is never rushed and spends time explaining his techniques and the properties of the high-quality products he uses. One leaves the spa not only looking and feeling great, but also with a good understanding of how to maintain one's self between visits (I wish they could be every day!).

I have not had that many facials that I could compare against Andrew's treatments but I have had enough massages and other forms of hands on experience to know that the Blue Turtle Spa is in a league of its own. Andrew is extremely knowledgeable about the products he uses and the available styles of treatments and is very good at explaining each step of his process to his clients. The treatment is thorough and presented in a relaxed unhurried manner without dragging it out. All I can really say is that the results were remarkable. I heard raves and pleasant comments by people of my inner circle for days after the treatments. I cannot recommend Andrew highly enough. This is one spa I want to see grow and thrive in San Francisco.

Normally I do not spend money on treatments because I cannot justify the expense.  It is effemeral, fleeting, expensive and you have to do it over and over again for the same experience and results.  I like to have something that has a more permenant value and is more varied.  Recently, my husband gifted me a treatment by Andrew.  What pleasure and results!  It was like going to a therapist but for your appearance.  And like a therapist, I could take away with me improved behaviour.  My skin never looked so good but what was best was that my skin stayed looking good forever really.  With some product adjustments suggested by Andrew and a routine I can maintain a facial quality skin tone on a regular basis and visit Andrew for those special occasions.  I particularily appreciate Andrews great knowledge.  Worth every penny.

He educated me about my skin, taught me good practices for my skin and I can?t wait for my next appointment! I loved everything about this facial, from the minute I arrived until the moment I left... it was great, especially the service. Very relaxing, friendly staff, great place to get pampered!
